  • BELDIVA field campaign
The BELDIVA project aims to sample representative habitats that could hold micro-organismes in the surroundings of the Princesse Elisabeth Belgian Station, Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. In addition, samples will be taken on the sites that were already sampled two years ago, by Damien Ertz. On the 23rd of January 2009, Belgian and international scientists flew to Antarctica. Annick Wilmotte (Ulg), Karolien Peeters (UGent), Jeroen Van Wichelen (UGent), Cyrille D'Haese (Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France) and Steve Roberts (British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK) were participating. During their stay, they have explored new regions, brought samples from microbial mats, gravels, rocks, etc to be studied in the laboratories of the three ANTAR-IMPACT partners and by other international colleagues.
